Pencak Malioboro Festival 2013
· Pentjak, or Pentjak Silat are ancient martial art that came from Nusantara ( Archipelago ). This art is not only teach the martial way but also virtuous living value, philosophy, and wisdom that has been a unique way of living of people in Nusantara.
· Malioboro is The cultural Icon of Indonesia. Placed in the heart of the most exotic city, Yogyakarta, Indonesia
· Festival means a celebration to inflame spirit to wake up and rise again. Also as a media to perform and promote
Pentjak Malioboro Festival that will be held in Malioboro, Yogyakarta is a gathering event for all Pentjak Silat enthusiast and practitioner from all over places. The festival has purposed to show that Pentjak Silat is not only a martial art nor even merely a sport branch, Pentjak Silat is a genuine Indonesian Cultural Heritage, a local genius that also build virtuous living value, philosophy, and wisdom that has been a unique way of living of people in Nusantara.
Estimated there will be 5000 participants will attend this Pentjak Malioboro Festival. They will come from many places in Indonesia and other countries.
More than twenty years Pentjak Silat has been lost it's popularity especially in Indonesia it self. Not many people knows exactly what Pencak Silat is, and more of that, there's not even a single information available out there about Pentjak Silat. Paseduluran Angkringan Silat that is founded in the end of 2011 are meant to solve this problem also to preserve and develop Pentjak Silat in it's art and cultural side.
Throughout the year of 2012 Paseduluran Angkringan Silat had been doing many activities and events in order to evoke and notices Pentjak Silat community that Pentjak Silat had been so close to extinction. Many Pentjak Silat School and Style had been lost because there's no one wants to inherit it and there's no proper documentation for it.
Over the last year Paseduluran Angkringan Silat together with all Pentjak Silat enthusiasts and practitioners have done many effort to preserve Pentjak Silat by documenting every Pentjak Silat School and Style that still exist. Many ways has also been done by Paseduluran Angkringan Silat to promote Pentjak Silat.
The effort are getting bigger and bigger everytime. Slowly but sure we can see the result. People are being aware of Pentjak Silat. We are hoping Pentjak Malioboro Festival can revolutionize the progress.
Pencak Malioboro Festival is dedicated to O'ong Maryono, one of Pentjak Silat Maestro who spread Pentjak Silat all around the world. He initiate Paseduluran Angkringan Silat and Pencak Malioboro Festival.
Recently he passed away after a brave fight against cancer on March 20th 2013. He left before he can see his dreams fulfilled. So that we have an obligation not only to Pentjak Silat Community but also to O'ong Maryono to make this event come true. (http://www.indiegogo.com/)
